By now it should be obvious to fair-minded, thinking Americans concerned about the loss of trust in our country’s governing institutions that elements of the Obama administration and careerists in the Deep State conspired to keep Donald Trump out of the White House — and when that didn’t work, to undermine him and his administration with the goal of ousting him from office.
That’s the essence of the “Spygate” scandal, and the evidence that it accrued is, by now, irrefutable.
But just when you think you’ve seen all the damning evidence, something new bubbles up to the surface, compliments of continued dogged pursuit of all the facts by journalists and groups committed to the defense of our republic.
We already knew, for instance, that fired FBI Director James Comey was in on the coup attempt. He leaked sensitive information to a friend, who then passed it on to the media, in an attempt to trigger a special counsel appointment — which happened. We knew that he exonerated 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for her criminal mishandling of classified emails and materials.
Now we learn that he was more heavily involved in the larger Spygate plot than anyone suspected in that he was actually running an inside counterintelligence operation within the FBI and Justice Department to ‘get’ President Trump, which included providing bogus information to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court so he could obtain a warrant to spy on a Trump campaign associate.
The recent disclosure of newly obtained documents “was the result of a federal lawsuit and a year of litigation. Despite efforts by FBI Director Christopher Wray to obstruct, a federal court issued an order that forced the FBI and Department of Justice to produce the records known as ‘302 reports,’” Fox News’ Gregg Jarrett noted. “They are a summary of interviews FBI agents conducted with Bruce Ohr, a top DOJ official.”
The 302s reveal that the FBI and DoJ had been repeatedly warned by Ohr that former British spy Christopher Steele, author of the infamous “Steele Dossier” containing all sorts of salacious, and false, information about the president, was extremely biased against the target of their counterintelligence operation, Trump himself.
As such, the inherent anti-Trump bias of Steele undermined the credibility of his dossier, though Obama administration officials nevertheless relied on it when they officially launched a counterintelligence probe of the 2016 Trump campaign in July of that year. (Related: MSNBC panelist claims BOGUS Steele dossier ‘keeps getting corroborated’ by Mueller, though it ISN’T.)
But the FBI ignored the warnings of bias, Jarrett noted, and then took an active role in concealing its tainted, unsubstantiated revelations from the FISA court. And FBI officials never told the FISA court judges that the dossier information was “unverified.”
They also hid from the court the fact that the Clinton campaign financed the dossier along with the Democratic National Committee. Jarrett noted further:
The court was never told that Ohr’s wife helped cultivate some of the research used against Trump. Having fired Steele for leaking to the media and lying about it, the FBI and DOJ represented to the judge that Steele was “reliable” when they knew he was not. They continued to rely on him months after his termination.
Even as Comey, in an unprecedented press conference July 5, 2016, told the country “no reasonable prosecutor” would take Clinton to court for serial violations of the Espionage Act, members of his FBI were meeting in London with Steele, who provided details on his initial dossier memo dated June 20.
The agent, reportedly, was stunned, remarking, “I have to report this to headquarters.” And so, the Trump probe began.
The investigation continued even after Trump was elected, meaning Comey was investigating the president even as he met with him to discuss other things. Diabolical.
Will Comey be held accountable? How about the others involved in Spygate? If Attorney General William Barr is serious about rebuilding trust in the DoJ and FBI, the answer is yes. And soon.
