Russia issued another one of its “red lines” this week warning the West not to allow Ukraine to use its weapons to strike targets deep in Russian territory, but apparently this is already happening.
In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Yuri Sak, Adviser to Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries, announced that the Ukrainian military is already using British-made Storm Shadow missiles to strike Russian targets after being authorized to do so by London.
Sak’s revelation came after British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said earlier this month that Kiev has a right to strike Russia using weapons supplied to it by the United Kingdom.
When Sak was asked directly if the Ukrainian military plans to use foreign weapons to cross Russia’s red line, this is how he responded, providing no further details:
“The United Kingdom has already previously allowed Ukraine to use their long-range missiles, Storm Shadows, and we have been successfully using them.”
(Related: A recent study found that Americans are much worse off financially under Biden than they were under Trump.)
Not long after Cameron’s comments from earlier this month, Russian Foreign Ministry official Sergey Belyaev said much the same that “U.K.-supplied weapons are being actively used by the Ukrainian military in terrorist attacks on civilian infrastructure and the civilian population of Donbass, as well as other Russian regions.”
In other words, Russia’s position is that Ukraine has already crossed the red line not only to strike Russian military targets but also, allegedly, Russian civilian targets, which is just asking for World War III.
As this is all happening, the Volodymyr Zelensky regime continues to demand that the U.K., the United States and other Western backers continue to allow it to strike targets deep within Russia – to their own demise.
The U.K. has given the green light, as have Poland and Latvia. Apparently those three countries want to mess around and find out what happens next.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is also fully on board with Ukraine using foreign-supplied weapons against Russian targets deep within Russia. Stoltenberg argues that to not allow this would amount to denying Ukraine the ability to defend itself – sound familiar?
Israel uses the same line about “defending itself” whenever foreign entities have anything critical to say about its questionable military operations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to all this by warning that long-range strikes on Russia using Western weaponry will not be tolerated.
“This constant escalation can lead to serious consequences,” Putin remarked. “If these serious consequences occur in Europe, how will the U.S. behave, bearing in mind our parity in the field of strategic weapons? Hard to say. Do they want global conflict?”
London’s position on Ukraine’s use of U.K.-supplied weapons in Russia implies that in a reverse scenario Russian-supplied missiles could be used by other countries to strike targets deep within England. Would the world be okay with this?
“It means that any country can employ any group of mercenaries, arm them, pay them and set them against whoever they perceive to be their enemy,” is how one commenter at RT put it.
“It might be OK insofar as domestic politics is concerned because it avoids the political fallout of thousands of body bags returning home on a weekly basis on special flights. Let the Ukrainians worry about the body bags. We are getting real value for money sending them money, weapons and showering them with faux euphemisms. How does this square up to the U.N. charter??? It’s already a useless, inept and corrupt institution, used and abused by the U.S. to pursue its geo-political goals.”
